A recipient of the 2016 Toronto Jazz Festival 'Special Projects Initiative' award, AVATAAR is led by multiple JUNO-nominated jazz saxophonist, vocalist and composer Sundar Viswanathan. After 7 years of workshopping the band's sound and music, 'Petal' is AVATAAR's long anticipated debut release.
The music is questing in nature - the concepts of impermanence and universal consciousness feature in many of the compositions, as do first-rate musical interpretations and improvisations by the band's members. The music marries Hindustani raag and taal, hardbop jazz, Brazilian lyricism, electronica, atmospheric textures and ambiance, Javanese gamelan, and contemporary improvisation. The resulting confluence is a mesmerizing blend of rhythmic hypnotism, sonic landscapes and soaring melody that marries ancient and modern musical sounds.
Lula's culinary team has created a distinctive menu that like Lula itself, is decidedly international with a Latin soul that shines through in everything we do. Check out Lula's new tropical fusion menu.
Enjoy dinner before the show!
Dinner reservations guarantee seating and a great start to the evening.
On weekdays, Lula offers a three course, tropical fusion prix fixe dinner that includes choice of appetizer, main course, and dessert for just $35. Prefer to dine tapas style?
