Calling all horn players!

LULA PUTS OUT A CALL TO HORN PLAYERS EVERYWHERE!

Lula Music and Arts Centre is inviting all horn players to join Street Brass on a musical journey to the streets of New Orleans and beyond - without leaving Toronto!

If you play trombone, tuba, trumpet, sax or any horn or brass instrument, we want you to be part of the community performance June 2 at Dundas West Fest.

Spearheaded by Lula Music & Arts Centre as a part of the annual Lulaworld Festival, Street Brass is a community brass ensemble led New Orleans-based, Winnipeg-born (and Toronto-loved) trombonist, Christopher Butcher and produced in conjunction with Uma Nota artistic director Alexander Bordokas.

Street Brass brings together brass players of diverse backgrounds and musical abilities of all ages from junior-high school level and up. Students, seasoned professionals and lapsed players from all walks of life are invited to join us in taking our music to the street on the afternoon of June 2 as part of the Dundas West Fest community street festival.

Watch the call for action video, invite your friends to join you through the Facebook event page.

There are two ways to prepare:

1) Attend the rehearsals to learn in person. These workshops are taught in the aural folk tradition so get ready to use your ears instead of reading charts!

2) Study Chris Butcher’s fun and inspiring online video tutorials at lulaworld.ca.

The first two instructional videos are out now and more will be released in the coming weeks!

Not in Toronto?

Out of town participants can prepare with the online tools then join the rehearsal the night before the big day! Let us know your coming by registering here!

Don’t have an instrument?

Apply for a FREE rental from Long & McQuade. Fill in this short form to be eligible to apply for the free rental, courtesy of our lead sponsor Long & McQuade. Rentals can be arranged at Long & McQuade locations throughout the GTA.

Not a musician?

We still need you! Bring the whole family and be part of our Mardi Gras style Dundas Brass parade! Make something to wear, carry or shake. A family friendly-craft workshop will be offered outside Lula Lounge at 1585 Dundas West at 11:30 AM on June 2.

A Travel Adventure in one location

After Street Brass performs songs inspired by the vibrant streets of New Orleans, the Lulaworld stage at 1630 Dundas West will host international artists from Chile, Colombia, Peru, Puerto Rico and Brazil alongside top local players. The free Lulaworld outdoor concerts will be enhanced by music workshops, dance lessons and international street foods, also inspired by New Orleans, Brazil and Colombia.
